Sports Premium Funding to continue alongside School Games Programme in 22/23 academic year

Announced at the end of the last academic year, Sports Premium funding is set to continue for the 2022/2023 academic year. Backed by a ยฃ320 million funding pot this resource will continue to provide opportunities for young people to engage in 1 hour of physical activity per day.

The aim of Sports Premium funding is to provide more children with access to high quality PE lessons and opportunities to take part in sport of various types. This funding is focused on all sporting abilities and so, covers the entire Primary School age group.

Alongside this funding, the School Games programme is continuing, which provides access to an ยฃ11 million fund, supported by Sport England National Lottery.

What is the School Games Programme?

The School Games Programme provides support and guidance to schools at all points of education, helping pupils to engage in competitive sport. The main aim of this sporting programme is to develop sporting talent from a young age, centering this around a positive environment to inspire, motivate and give confidence to young people.

Interestingly 29 School Games alumni have gone on to win medals at the Tokyo Olympics, showing what an impact the programme can have on a young personโ€™s potential.

As part of the process, schools who take part in the School Games Programme can apply for funding and support to enable them to take part in the games and schedule. Other support is also offered such as Toolkits which support teachers in helping their pupils to understand the positives of engaging in sporting competitions. Everything within the programme aims to increase engagement in competitive sport, hoping to help pupils find and work on their talents from a young age.

The network currently consists of over 18,000 schools who actively take part in School Gamesโ€™ competitions. More information on how to take part or apply to be in the programme can be found via their website.

Helping your pupils engage in sport through improving your schoolโ€™s resources

At UniPlay, we have worked with a huge number of schools who have required support and guidance on improving sporting opportunities for their pupils. We understand how difficult this can be, ensuring that pupils of all ages and abilities have the option to engage in both competitive and non-competitive sport.

If applicable, we recommend all of the schools we work with look at funding options, including Sports Premium, Sport England, PTA fundraising etc. Having this money available means your school can improve resources, creating new courts, engaging games and even adding in educational and sporting activities for your pupils to enjoy.

We specialise in creating bespoke sports playground markings and games, designing bespoke sports courts and games which all work towards improving engagement in physical activity. Examples of the designs we create can be found via our website, or if you wish to discuss your requirements further a member of our team would be happy to hear from you.

Our team operate throughout the UK and all the work we create, and install is done so by our in-house team. We also work with nurseries, primary schools, secondary schools and higher education, so whatever your requirements, we are here to help.
